Mrs Russell J Matthias died in San Francisco, Jan 11, 1983, following a brief illness. She was ninety-five.
Although she never earned a college degree, Mrs Matthias was an enthusiastic student of the arts & a poet. For several years she was an art critic in Chicago. She also became a Fellow of the Gleeson Library.
Mr & Mrs Matthias traveled extensively during more than sixty years of happy marriage & were especially interested in the Far East. Their home on Nob Hill was a mecca for artists & writers, both famous & aspiring.
In 1978 Mrs Matthias was instrumental in the founding of The Foundation for Glaucoma Research. Her continuing advise & support to the Foundation proved invaluable.
It is difficult to capture the essence of so vital a person.
Blanche gave of herself generously throughout her life. We shall do our best to make the ongoing work of the Foundation a continuing tribute to her memory.
