U.S. Congressman. Moving to Alabama, in 1825, he studied law, was admitted to the bar and practiced law in Montgomery, Alabama. He was Montgomery County Court Clerk, a member of the Alabama State House of Representatives in 1828, solicitor of Montgomery County in 1828 and commissioner of the Alabama State, in 1842. In 1843, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-eighth Congress, serving until 1845. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law and was a member of the Alabama State House of Representatives, from 1853, until his death at age 53.
