Belgian Author. He attended the Klein Seminarie in Hoogstraten and obtained a law degree at the University of Leuven in 1911. He established himself as a lawyer in Antwerp. He voluntarily enlisted in the Belgian army in World War I. He was promoted to an officer and was seriously injured on April 6, 1916. He later became justice of the peace in Kontich, judge in the court in Kontich and finally in Antwerp. In his first collections of poems, the influence of Karel Van de Woestijne and Guido Gezelle is unmistakably reflected. "Songs of Dream and Act" (1918) is a poetic reflection of the war years. His later collections of poetry exude a religious meditative atmosphere. In his novel "The Light Behind the Hill" (1929), he profiles himself as a precursor to Gerard Walschap and Lode Zielens. From 1932 until his death, he was editor-in-chief of "Dietsche Warande and Belfort."
