GALVA WEEKLY NEWS - 6 April 1882:
******************************
Frank Gowen, a boy about fifteen years old, and a son of Elder L. D. Gowen, left home on Monday morning and started in the direction
of Rock Island.
Monday evening the father received a telegram from Colona saying that a young man, supposed to be his son, had jumped from the bridge at that place into the river and was drowned.
Mr. Isaac Grant went to Colona Tuesday and on investigation learned that young Gowen had been seen on the bridge late in the evening, and a certificate of his vaccination was found pinned to the bridge with his pocket knife.
Search was immediately made for the body but up to this time their efforts have met with no success.
The reason for committing this act is not known.
