Mrs. Ward graduated from St. Marys Junior College in Raleigh, NC and the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. A member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent, she was the former President of the Episcopal Church Women and the first woman elected to the Vestry. She was elected by the Convention of the Diocese to Bishop and Council of the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina. She was a member of the Junior League of Spartanburg, served as chairman of the Spartanburg Committee of the South Carolina Chapter of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, the president of The Assembly of Spartanburg, the president of the Debutante Club of Spartanburg, and was a member of the Spartanburg Country Club, the Piedmont Club, the Spartanburg Garden Club, the Reviewers Study Club, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
