Actress. Born in White Plains, New York, she graduated from White Plains High School with the dream and intent of becoming an actress. However, her parents insisted she first attend college and was enrolled at Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vermont where she received a B.A. degree in American Literature. After graduation she went to New York City and pursued an actress career working two years at the Neighborhood Playhouse and appeared in several Broadway plays. Emily became Dr. Eileen Seaton in the soap opera, 'Young Dr. Malone.' She moved to Hollywood and began guest starring: 'Studio One, Kraft Theatre and The Twilight Zone.' Then in 1963, she became a mainstay on the soap opera 'General Hospital' as Jessie Brewer, R.N. a relationship which lasted some twenty eight years. Diagnosed with cancer in 1984, her health began to fail and she expressed a wish for a diminished work schedule. Her character was phased out in 1985 but she continued appearing a couple times a year until her death from cancer in Los Angeles. Upon her passing, Jessie's death was written into the show as a tribute to Emily who played the part for so many years. She had been married three times, her last but most notable, was to Jeffrey Hunter just four months before his untimely passing. Emily had made arrangements before her death to be buried beside Jeffrey at Glen Haven Memorial Park.
