Don graduated in 1949 from Huntington High School and served in the US Naval Reserve in the early 1950s. He retired in 1993, after 42 years of service with C&P Telelphone/Bell Atlantic. He was proud of the fact that he was involved in both major advancements in telephone service in West Virginia, from manual to mechanical switching and then from mechanical to electronic switching. Don was passionate about racing in various forms. As a young man he drove on local dirt tracks, then spent 20 years in the 70s and 80s supporting the motorcycle career of his son Rod. Later he renewed his interest with NASCAR and was a huge Dale Earnhart fan.
He is survived by two sons, Richard A. Bush and wife Gwendolyn of Parkersburg, and Randall C. Bush of Harrisburg, NC; seven grandchildren, Tony, Tyler and Taylor Bush of Parkersburg, Jennifer Raile and Jessica Bridges of North Carolina, Robert and Stacy Bush of Vermilion, OH; four great grandchildren; and close friend Michele Graham of Parkersburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Margaret L. "Marty" Bush; son, Rodney D. Bush; and brother, David L. Bush.
Services will be Monday 11:00 am at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Jim Kelly and Reverend Erik Nielsen officiating.
Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
