Bettie Gamble Alderson was a daughter of Benjamin Amos Alderson and his second wife, Mary Lisle Baker. Her maternal grandparents were Samuel Baker and Elizabeth "Eliza" Gamble of Virginia. She married Joseph C. Watkins in St. Charles on 9 Jul 1872. They were the parents of five known children.
