RUSSELL ALLEN, RETIRED ARMSTRONG ENGINEER

Russell D. Allen, 83, of Woodcrest Villa, Apt. 202, formerly of Elizabethtown, died Monday at Mennonite Home of natural causes.

A registered professional engineer, Allen retired in 1980 from Armstrong World Industries as a supervising design engineer. He had worked there for 43 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He graduated from the former Lancaster Boys High School and spent two years at Lehigh University.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Elizabethtown, where he was a soloist in the choir, played violin in the Sunday school orchestra and taught adult classes. He also served on numerous boards and committees of the church building.

He served as secretary of the Professional Engineers Society, Lincoln chapter.

A member of Lancaster County Art Association, he had received numerous awards for his oil paintings of historic buildings and landmarks in Lancaster County.

He also enjoyed fishing.

He was the husband of of the late M. Catherine Allen.

Born in Middleburg, he was the son of the late Chalres M. and Elizabeth Derr Allen.

Surviving are two sons, Keith M., married to Kendace Borry Allen of Manheim, and Kent M., married to Suzann Poole Allen of Elizabethtown; six grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth, married to Earl McFarland of Elizabethtown.

ALLEN - Entered into rest in Manheim Township, PA on January 3, 2000. RUSSELL D. ALLEN, husband of the late M. Catherine McCracken Allen, of Woodcrest Villa, Apt. 202, Lancaster, PA, in his 84th year. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Spruce and Oak Streets, Elizabethtown, PA on Thursday, January 6, 2000 at 3:00 pm with the Pastor James D. Corbett and Rev. Frank A. Nickel officiating. Interment in Mellinger's Mennonite Cemetery, lancaster. There will be no viewing. Friends may call at the church on Thursday afternoon from 2:00 until the time of service. If desired, contributions may be made in his memory to the Water Street Rescue Mission, 210 South Prince Street, Lancaster, PA or to Bethesda Mission, 611 Reilly Street, Harrisburg, PA 17102.
