Marion Joan Reeves
Marion Joan Reeves, 79, "died with her boots on" on Sunday, April 11, 2010, at Wilson Memorial Hospital where she worked as an O.R. nurse for many years. Born in Ashley, PA on July 10, 1930, Joan is survived by her husband of 50 years, {*}; daughter and son-in-law, {*} and {*}; grandson, {*}; sister, {*}, all of Vestal. She is also survived by her brothers, {*} and Kenneth Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. Her brother David and parents, Marion and Russell Johnson, preceded her in death. After graduating from Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre and receiving her R.N. from Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Joan (Johnnie) worked in Philadelphia before moving to Johnson City where she loved her life in the O.R. until health issues forced an early retirement at age 40. Joan persevered through declining function and multiple surgeries with great humor and courage, always planning to "feel better tomorrow" while giving everyone else directions on how to function today! Sustained by her down-to-earth faith and close circle of friends, Joan was an active member of Boulevard United Methodist Church as a member of its Progressive Class, Friday Bible Study, children's choir and prayer meeting accompanist, and serving as the church's unofficial humor writer.
Joan's funeral service will be held at Boulevard United Methodist Church in Binghamton on Thursday, April 15th, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ernest Steffensen and Rev. Tony Hipes officiating. The family will receive friends at the Barber Memorial Home Inc., 428 Main Street, Johnson City on Wednesday, April 14th, from 3 - 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Joan's memory to the memorial fund of Boulevard U.M. Church, 113 Grand Blvd., Binghamton, NY 13905.
