Paternal grandfather of Edgar Lee Masters. Prominent farmer in Menard County. Squire fought with Captain William Gillham's Company from Morgan County, Ill. in the Blackhawk War in 1832. After the war he was appointed a captain of militia by Governor Reynolds.
