Civil War Confederate Congressman. As a prominent Georgian supporter of the Confederate States at the beginning of the Civil War, he entered Confederate politics. He was elected and represented the Georgia State in the Provisional Confederate Congress in 1862, replacing Eugenius A. Nisbet, who had resigned. After the war, he resumed his personal business interests until his death at age 81.
