Died of a Broken Heart.

The funeral of Miss Alice G. Nicol, who died on Friday of last week, occurred on Sunday afternoon, her body being consigned to a grave near the parents who were inexpressibly dear to her in life. Miss Nicol's death was entirely unexpected. She was ill with the grip, but at no time did the disease indicate a probable fatal result. The opinion of the attending physician, that she died of a broken heart caused by grief at the death of her father a few days before, is probably correct. The joy and pride and hope of her life was expressed in the tender care she took of her aged parent, and when the life-light faded from his eyes, her sum of human happiness was ended. Her death brought an additional and great sorrow to her big-hearted brothers and loving sister, and the full sympathy of the community go out to them in their heavy bereavement.

Passing of a Pioneer.

James G. Nicol, a pioneer and worthy citizen of Tuolumne County, died at the old family homestead, near Columbia, early Wednesday morning. Deceased was the father of Hon. G. W. Nicol of this city and Hon. F. D. Nicol of Stockton. Besides these, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Johnson and Miss Nicol of Columbia. The funeral occurred on Thursday afternoon and was largely attended. Interment was made in the public cemetery, and Rev. A. H. Croco conducted the services.

As we go to press a telephone message received from Columbia announces the death of Miss Nicol, who has been seriously ill and whose end was probably hastened by the great sorrow at the death of her father.
