Architect, Stonemason, and Builder. He studied at the Berlin Academy of Architecture, after apprenticing as a stonemason in his father's business in Bunzlau (today Boleslawiec, Silesia, Poland). He was a builder and also served as a building inspector in Berlin from 1822-1832. He served on the Berlin City Council from 1842 to 1859 and was named a "City Elder" upon his retirement from that position. He was also named the Royal Building Master in 1836 and the Royal Building Inspector in 1842. His best known works were the large granite bowl in the Lustgarten and the foundations and support column for the Victory Column (Siegessäule) in Berlin. He was also responsible for many stone carvings on monumental works in the capital during his life there. A street in the Prenzlauer Berg section of Berlin was named in his honor.
