Fashion Designer. Born Maria Adélaide Nielli in Turin, Italy, she began as an apprenticeship in dressmaking and pursued her love of fashion creating her own design house, the House of Nina Ricci Paris France, in 1932. The House of Nina Ricci grew rapidly throughout the 1930s-40s, to include leather goods and fashion accessories. By the early 1950s, Nina Ricci manufactured the best line of fashions, lavish jewelry and fine perfumes, distributed through out Europe and the United States. Nearing 70 years of age, she slowly withdrew from an active role in design and her son Crahay took over the company as the new head designer in 1954. She died at age 87.
