Thomas Joseph Allen was born in Pennsylvania in 1791. He married Nancy McCombs of Cecil Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania in about 1820.They later moved to Glade Mill, Butler County and finally to Allegheny, Allegheny County, where he died in 1861. They had four daughters and three sons: two of which were Joseph Hill Allen and John Lee Allen. At various times Thomas worked as a farmer, as a grocer, and as a school treasurer.
