Artist. A sculptor and patron of the arts, she maintained a studio in Greenwich Village and founded the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1931. Her works of hers include "Aztec Fountain" and "Titanic Memorial" in Washington, D. C., "Buffalo Bill Cody" in Cody, Wyoming, and "Peter Stuyvesant" in New York City. A great-granddaughter of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt, she was involved in a bitter custody battle for her niece, Gloria Vanderbilt, in 1935.
