Hymn Writer. Served in the First Methodist Church in Cape May, New Jersey for 60 years. He helped in the American Civil War in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Author of the hymns Trusting Jesus and Beulah Land. He was also a riverboat pilot on the Delaware River. Cousin of hymn writer Eliza Edmund Hewitts.
