U.S. Congressman. Moving to Rhode Island in 1868, he attended a business college and was a member of the Rhode Island Militia, (1870-71). Relocating to New Jersey, in 1883, he engaged in the manufacture of textile fabrics, was a member of the New Jersey State Sewerage Commission, (1905-08) and president of the New Jersey State Board of Health, (1908-14). In 1915, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-fourth and Sixty-fifth Congresses, serving until his death at age 61.
