US Congressman. In 1911 he was admitted to the bar and opened a law practice in Terre Haute, Indiana. From 1917 to 1924, he was a deputy DA and later prosecuting attorney for the forty-third judicial circuit of Indiana. In 1925, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-ninth, Seventieth, and Seventy-first Congresses, serving until 1931. He was reelected to the Seventy-sixth Congress in 1939 and to the four succeeding Congresses, serving until his resignation. In 1948, he was appointed Chief Judge of the United States Court of Customs and Patent Appeals and served and until retiring in 1958.
