LOS ANGELES—Desire [DeDe] Ball, 84-year-old mother of Lucille Ball and described as the comedienne’s greatest rooter and constant visitor to Lucy’s movie and television sets, has died of natural causes, a family spokesman said yesterday.
Mrs. Ball died Tuesday night at her home in the exclusive Brentwood area of West Los Angeles. She had had been in ill health for a number of years, the spokesman said.
Called DeDe by her daughter and friends, Mrs. Ball was active in show business herself at one time, starring as a concert pianist in Jamestown, N.Y.
