U.S. Congressman. Born the grandson of U.S. Congressman Thomas Treadwell, he attended Clinton Academy and graduated from Hamilton College, in 1831. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1833 and commenced to practice law in Syracuse, New York. He was also interested in railroading and coal mining. Entering politics, he was elected as a Unionist to the Thirty-eighth Congress and reelected as a Republican to the Thirty-ninth Congress, serving (1863-67). Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
