WIDOW OF EARLY MAYOR DIES

Funeral Services Here for Mrs. Edward H. Allen Will Be Friday

Mrs. Edward H. Allen died Sunday at Toledo, O., following a very brief illness. She was the widow of Edward H. Allen, the first Republican mayor of Kansas City, elected in 1867. Mr. Allen was a member of the first board of education in Kansas City. He superintended the construction of the Exchange Building as a member of the building committee of the Board of Trade. Mrs. Allen died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. Kent Hamilton, widow of a former may of Toledo.

Mrs. Allen was about 80 years old. She was a sister of Henry Ward Beecher, and bore a striking resemblance to the famous preacher. In the long period of her life in Kansas City she was active in women's club movements and a conspicuous leader among intellectual folk. She was a member of old Grace Episcopal. She left Kansas City about seven years ago to live with Mr. & Mrs. Hamilton. Mr. Hamilton died about two months ago.

The funeral services will be in Kansas City Friday. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, according to word received by a nephew, James F. Goodman, 3633 Central.
