Widow of Richard Pope of Campbell and Buckingham County VA. They moved to Ohio after February 1835 when Richard Pope and oldest son James were listed in the property tax records of Campbell county Virginia. Information contained in the Austin-Twyman papers (collection housed at The College of William and Mary Swem Library Special Collections) proves that Jane Scott was the daughter of Joseph Scott (b. ca 1751, d. 1793), a soldier of the Revolution, and his wife Drusilla (last name not currently known).
Richard Pope had died by 1839 when a guardian was named for his youngest daughter, and by the 1840 US census, his wife Jane appears as head of household in Columbus, Franklin County Ohio.
The grave of her daughter, Nancy Pope Palmer, is in Section I plot 33, which explains the confusion about why she would be buried in the Royce plot. It is near her daughter's grave.
