Singer and entertainer. Born in Calcutta, India, and educated at Georgian Court, Lakewood, New Jersey, Jessica Dragonette was invited to New York for singing lessons under the renowned teacher Estelle Liebling. Soon as a soprano, she thrilled audiences by performing in operas and in Broadway shows. Merging into radio in the late 1920s, she was signed to NBC performing on the Coca-Cola Hour, Cities Service Concert Series, and Cities Service Show. Dragonette even appeared in several featured films, such as Gulliver's Travels (1939), where she voiced Princess Glory's singing voice. By 1938, she was awarded radio's Star of Stars and during World War II, she became even more popular on American radio. She was awarded the US Treasury Silver Medal for selling war bonds and silver wings from both the Army and Navy and for entertaining the troops. In the 1950s, she appeared on TV shows such as Dragnet, Texaco Theatre, and The Ed Sullivan Show. David Gottlieb, the president of the leading pinball game manufacturer, hired her to appear in commercials promoting a pinball game called Dragonette. She died of a heart attack at age 80 in New York City and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Radio.
