US Congressman. Born in Liberty, Maryland, he spent most of his life in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where he owned a hardware store and a carriage-building business. In December 1850 he was elected as a Democrat to complete the term of Congressman Henry Nes, who died in office; he served until March 1851. During the Civil War Danner served on Gettysburg's Central Relief Committee and in June 1863 organized emergency militia recruiting as General Robert E. Lee's Confederate troops advanced on the area. He witnessed the battle (July 1 to 3) that marked the turning point of the war. He remained one of Gettysburg's elite citizens until his death.
