U.S. Congressman. He was a successful cabinetmaker and also engaged in mercantile pursuits. He served as justice of the peace for Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, (1811-22). In 1823, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Eighteenth, Nineteenth, and Twentieth Congresses, serving until 1829. Declining to be a candidate for reelection, he was again a justice of the peace, (1830-59) and engaged in the real estate business until his death.
