U.S. Congressman. He engaged in agricultural pursuits and served as a Captain in the 2nd Regiment of Monmouth County, New Jersey Militia in 1775. He was a member of the New Jersey State House of Assembly (1776-79) and New Jersey State Treasurer (1783-99). In 1801, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventh and Eighth Congresses, serving until 1805. After leaving Congress, he returned to his agricultural pursuits until his death.
