US Congressman. Born in Solebury Township, Pennsylvania, he moved to Maryland in 1795, returned to Davisville, Pennsylvania, in 1812, where he engaged in agricultural and mercantile pursuits. During the War of 1812, he served as a Captain and later rose to the rank of Major General in the Pennsylvania Militia. In 1839, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-sixth Congress, serving until 1841. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was appointed surveyor of the Port of Philadelphia by President Polk, serving (1845-49). He then resumed his agricultural and mercantile pursuits until his death at age 89 in Davisville, Pennsylvania.
