Nellie was the daughter of Andrew and Teresa Ellen Thompson Blunt. After her mother's death, sometime around 1890, Nellie went to live with her mother's parents, John and Zerilda Cooper Thompson. When Nellie was 19, she married Edwin O. Wagar who was working on the Thompson farm at the time. They eloped and were married at Stroud, Oklahoma on May 10, 1903. Soon afterward the couple moved to Missoula, Montana where Edwin's brother William and family had settled. The young couple had five children in less than five years: Nellie, Cordelia, Edwin, William, and Helen. Their son William died during the flu epidemic of 1918. For the High School years of their children, they lived in the town of Bonner, near Missoula, Montana where Edwin worked at the local sawmill. In their retirement years, Nellie and Edwin lived on the ranch in Petroleum County which their daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Andrew Iverson had purchased in 1941.
