U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, 1892, was superintendent of schools in Dane County, (1892-94) and graduated from the law department of the University of Wisconsin, in 1896. He was bookkeeper in the office of the Wisconsin Secretary of State, (1894-97) editor of The Wisconsin State newspaper, (1897-98) and correspondent in the Wisconsin State treasury, (1898-1902). In 1906, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-ninth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Henry C. Adams and reelected to the Sixtieth and to the next five succeeding Congresses, serving until 1923. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he retired from business and political activities and lived in Madison, Wisconsin, until his death at age 84.
