Steven Ferrel Killed in Pacific

BOSCOBEL - Pvt. Steven Douglas Ferrel, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ferrel, Boscobel, was killed Feb. 16, in the South Pacific war theater, his parents have been informed by the war department. In service two years and overseas since October, 1944, he died of wounds received in action as a paratrooper. Two brothers in service are Donovan H., in Germany, and Frank R., military police, who is in Portland, Ore., after spending 27 months on the Aleutian islands. Rites for Pfc. Ferrell Held at Boscobel Today

BOSCOBEL - Services for Pfc. Stephen Ferrel, Boscobel, were held this morning in Immaculate Conception Catholic church. The Rev. Austin Henry officiated with military rites in charge of John P. Blake post No. 134, American Legion. Burial was in Boscobel cemetery. Pfc. Ferrel was born in Boscobel June 30, 1925. He entered service Mar. 7, 1943, and was sent to Australia in October, 1944. A paratrooper, he died Feb. 16, 1945, of wounds received in action in the assult on Corregidor. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ferrel, Boscobel; four sisters, Mrs. John Kelty, and Mrs. Inez Robinson, Boscobel; Mrs. Marian Brickl, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Joseph Meyer, South Bend, Ind., and three brothers, Donovan, South Bend, Ind; Richard, Tacoma, Wash., and Joseph, Boscobel. His parents are buried at Gate 3 Section 7; two of his brothers memorials state "no marker or stone" are also buried at Gate 3 Section 7.
