US Congressman. A native of Royalton, he graduated top three of the University of Vermont 1840 class, was admitted to the bar in May 1845 and commenced his practice in Royalton. He served in the Vermont State Senate from 1853 to 1854 and it's House of Representatives from 1861 to 1863. He was the Windsor County State Attorney from 1858 to 1860 and the US District Attorney from 1865 to 1869. A staunch Republican, he represented Vermont's Second District for two terms in United States House of Representatives, from March 4, 1875 through March 3, 1879.
