Eliza Mitchell was born in Camborne, Cornwall, England, Feb 1st, 1846, the fourth child of a family of eight children. At the age of eighteen years she was married to Joseph Thomas and three children blessed this union. Wm. James Thomas who died Jul 26, 1882, John Thomas of Lacona, Iowa and Jacob Thomas of Sioux City, Iowa. Her husband, Mr. [Joseph] Thomas was taken from her a few years before she became the wife of James W Stephens, and to them was born one son, Albert M Stephens of this place. Mr Stephens passed from this life June 22, 1897; and she remained his widow till Oct 24, 1900, when she united in marriage to James A Hoare, and lived a happy life until Monday, Feb 14, 1921 at 12:15 p.m. when death claimed her. She united with the M. E. Church in early girlhood and lived faithful to the end. She leaves to mourn a host of friends in this vicinity, besides the W. R. C. of which she was a very active member. Three sons survive: John M Thomas, Jacob Thomas and Albert M Stephens, five grand children and one great grand child. Mr John H Thomas, Lacona, Ia, Albert M Stephens, Mineral Point and all grand children including one little grand daughter were present besides her aged brother, Mr James Mitchell of Ottumwa, Iowa. She also leaves one brother, Mr Wm Mitchell of Emily, Minn, and an aged sister, Mrs Nicholas Johns of W Moshannon, Pa, who were unable to attend services
