U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Red Wing Seminary, from St. Olaf College, in 1912 and was special investigator for the Minnesota Department of Weights and Measures, (1912-15). Graduating from the St. Paul College of Law, he was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Red Wing, Minnesota, in 1915. He was a member of the Minnesota Home Guards, (1918-19), involved in various business enterprises and engaged in agricultural pursuits. In 1925, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-ninth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1933, Reelected to the Seventy-fourth Congress in 1935 and to the next eleven succeeding Congresses, he served until his death at age 67.
