U.S. Senator. He attended the Minneapolis School of Business, then Georgetown University, and was successful in insurance business. He served as a clerk in the post office in the U.S. House of Representatives, (1897-1901) and was deputy registrar of motor vehicles for Hennepin County, Minnesota (1912-34). In 1936 he was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Thomas D. Schall, serving until 1937. After leaving the Senate, he returned to the insurance business until his death.
