U.S. Congressman. After graduating from the Winona Normal School in 1886, he taught school for two years at Graceville, Minnesota. He then attended the law department of the University of Wisconsin, graduated from the law department of the University of Minnesota, in 1889, was admitted to the bar and commenced the practice of law in St. Paul, Minnesota (1889-1912). In 1913, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-third Congress, serving until 1915. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed his law practice until his death.
