U.S. Congressman. He attended University of Wisconsin, moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1901 and became successful in mercantile pursuits. He was a member of the St. Paul City Council (1910-14), city commissioner (1914-19) and commissioner of public utilities (1914-19). In 1919, he was elected as an Independent Republican to the Sixty-sixth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Carl C. Van Dyke, reelected as a Republican to the Sixty-seventh, Sixty-eighth, and Sixty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1927. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he engaged in the real estate business until his death.
