My maternal grandmother, daughter of Ellis G & Gertie Bell Watkins Coatney, married George Franklin Smith at the age of 15. She became a mother of Edna Irene and Velma Irene at 16, identical twins born two months prematurely, weighing about 2 lbs apeice. Velma did not survive. Other children followed. Doris Arlene, James Ellis, Mary Bell, Betty Sue, Winona Ruth, Frankie, and the unnamed baby girl that was stillborn just hours before her mother died at 32. Edna Irene, the twin, was my mother.
