US Congressman. Born in Leonia, New Jersey, he graduated from Williams College in Massachusetts and engaged in the jewelry business at Haworth, New Jersey. He was a member of the City Council (1930-34), Mayor of Haworth 1935-36) and a member of the New Jersey State House of Assembly (1935-37) in 1939, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-sixth and to the Seventy-seventh Congresses, serving until 1943. Not a candidate for reelection, he served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 77th Infantry Division, US Army, in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. After the war, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-second Congress and to the next six succeeding Congresses, serving (1951-65). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he engaged in the real estate business, until his death at age 69 in Tenafly, New Jersey.
