Mildred Moore Hutchinson (Mrs John Hutchinson)
Crusading for the rights of others, lobbying on political issues, demonstrating for the underpriviledged, and leading in strategies for social reform have been a part of Mildred Moore Hutchinson's life. No problem was too great for her to confront, whether in the Parent-Teacher Association, City Hall, Chamber of Commerce, or THE CHURCH. She has served the Methodist women's organizations at all levels, including the presidency of the Southern California-Arizona Conference Woman's Society of Christian Service from 1964 to 1968. Chairperson of her conference Board of Church and Society, Mildred guided the board through many controversial problems. A delegate to Jurisdictional and General Conferences, her dedication and energy were boundless in efforts to bring about a better church. As the neighborhood around her local church became integrated, her leadership was vital in helping the church respond to new opportunities for an integrated membership. She was on the organizing team and was first president of the Los Angeles Interfaith Coalition. In 1972, Mildred was chosen the Lay Person of the Year by the
Southern California-Arizona Conference, and in 1984, was honored by the Archives and History Center at Drew University. She lives in Los Angeles and is still a "trail blazer."
