U.S. Congressman. During World War I, he served as a Private in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, (1917-18). After the war, he worked as a reporter in Passaic, New Jersey, (1919-23), graduated from George Washington University Law School, Washington, D.C., in 1926, was admitted to the bar in 1927and served as secretary to Representative George N. Seger, (1923-40). In 1941, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-seventh Congress and to the next nine succeeding Congresses, serving until 1961. While in office, he was credited for spearheading the pass of the legislation that funded the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves in 1950. After serving in Congress, he remained active in civic affairs in his community until his death at age 74. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
