U.S. Congressman. Active in community affairs, he was supervisor of Berlin, New York, (1866-68) and clerk of Rensselaer County, (1868-71). In 1887, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fiftieth Congress, serving until 1889. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was the head Cashier of the National City Bank of Troy, New York, from 1889, until his death at age 68.
