Actress. Born Dagmar Spencer-Marcus, daughter of a surgeon, she was raised in London and later Southern Rhodesia before attending Rhodes University where she studied pre-med. She abandoned her pursuit in the medical field after catching the acting bug and began performing in amateur theater productions, prior to making her film debut with an uncredited part in the British picture "Night Without Stars" (1951). She was introduced to American audiences in the Burt Lancaster swashbuckler "The Crimson Pirate" (1952) and also appeared on numerous TV programs including "Robert Montgomery Presents", "Suspense" and "The United States Steel Hour", before experiencing her breakout role as Becky Driscoll in the classic science fiction picture "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (1956). She would share the 1956 Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer-Female with Anita Ekberg and Victoria Shaw. Throughout the remainder of her career, Wynter played graceful leading ladies in scores of TV series and films; she had a featured part as Eva Wainwright in "The Man Who Never Was" (1966 to 1967). Among her other memorable motion pictures include "Sink the Bismarck!" (1960), "The List of Adrian Messenger" (1963) and "Airport" (1970). She died from congestive heart failure.
