US Congressman. Elected to represent Louisiana's 5th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1876 to 1877. In January 1877, he resigned his congressional seat to become associate justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court that same month. He resigned April 3, 1880 and resumed his law practice in New Orleans. Born on "Home Plantation." Graduated from Centenary College in Jackson, La. and from the law department of the University of Louisiana in New Orleans in 1857 and he was admitted to the Louisiana bar the same year. He began his practice in Harrisonburg, La. When the war started, he joined the Confederate Army rising to the rank of captain. He was captured and sent to Johnson's Island, Ohio, where he remained until the war ended. He resumed his law practice in Vidalia, Louisiana, in 1866.
