U.S. Congressman. Graduated from the University of Oregon, in 1900, the law school of Columbia University New York, in 1903, he was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Portland, Oregon. He was a member of the Oregon State House of Representatives, (1929, 31, 350 and served in the Oregon State Senate, (1937-38). In 1939, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-sixth Congress and to the next seven succeeding Congresses, serving until 1955. Retiring from politics after his final term, he remained active in his local community until his death at age 93.
