ONTARIO, WIS. - Norma Sylvia (Berg) Hutchens, 96 years 8 months, of Ontario died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family at Sauk County Healthcare Center. She was born March 6, 1906, to Oscar and Laura (Johnson) Berg of Ontario. She was baptized and confirmed at Brush Creek Lutheran Church, of which she was lifelong member. She married Clark E. Hutchens on Feb. 14, 1925, in Durand, Wis. She worked at Tilman Produce in Wilton, Wis., and later at Central Wisconsin Colony in Madison until her retirement in 1971. She is survived by Otis (Phyllis) Hutchens of New Lisbon, Wis., Harold (Bernadine) Hutchens of Ontario, Helen (Max) Downing of Ontario, LeDale (Allan) Bair of Ontario and Sandra (Gary) Williams of Viroqua, Wis.; a sister, Mae Malphy of Merrillan, Wis.; and sisters-in-law, Helen Berg of Ontario and Loretta (Elmer) Berg of Fond du Lac, Wis. She also leaves 15 grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, parents, four brothers and one grandson, Ronald Clark Downing.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Brush Creek Lutheran Church of Ontario at 11 a.m. The Rev. John Stennes-Spidahl will preside. Burial will follow services in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Torkelson Funeral Home in Ontario on Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, from 5 to 7 p.m. Friends may also call from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church Saturday. Torkelson Funeral Home in Ontario will be assisting the family with arrangements. The family has requested that memorials be directed to Brush Creek Lutheran Church, in memory of Norma.
