U.S. Congressman. Attending Brown University Rhode Island, (1799-1801), he studied medicine, was licensed a physician and practice medicine in Salem, Massachusetts. In 1821, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventeenth Congress, serving until 1823. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was a member of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives, (1823, 29, 33, 37) and served in the Massachusetts State Senate, (1827, 34). Leaving politics, he relocated to Florida due to his poor health and engaged in mercantile pursuits until his death at age 68. In addition to his burial location, he has a cenotaph marker, located within his parent's lot in Cushing Cemetery, Mattapoisett, Massachusetts.
