Isaac and Lucy were prospering nicely on the farm when Isaac was called for Jury
Duty early in the summer of 1858. The Edwards River was wide and flowing
swiftly due to heavy rains and had to be crossed in order to report for Jury
Duty. Isaac and two or three other men decided to use a wagon box as a boat
thinking that they could paddle across the river, but the box overturned and
Isaac was drowned. The Edwards River empties into the Mississippi River 10-15
miles southwest of Millersburg and had claimed many lives before due to
flooding.
Isaac's body was recovered and buried in the Millersburg Cemetery. Isaac died
at the age of 36 years.
