Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant Major in the US Army in the 74th New York Infantry. He attained the rank of Brevet Captain US Vols. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action at Chancellorsville, Virginia on May 2, 1863. His citation reads "Bravery in conducting a scouting party in front of the enemy."
